Custom Subwoofer Enclosures

A subwoofer enclosure is a box, or enclosure, designed specifically to house a subwoofer and/or fit the contours of your vehicle.

Subwoofer enclosures are primarily made of wood and fiberglass, and can be finished with different materials.

The most popular kind of materials that can be used include:

  • Carpet
  • Upholstry
  • Paint

There can be some confusion when referring to “subwoofer enclosures”. Maybe you are familiar with the terms “Speaker Box” or “Sub Box”? The name doesn’t really matter because they are the same thing. There is no real difference.

The only difference comes in the form of “regular subwoofer enclosure” vs. “custom subwoofer enclosure”.

A regular enclosure is a box built for a particular size speaker, not a particular brand. A custom enclosure is a box built and tuned for the vehicle, and for a type of sound the customer is looking for.

When thinking about purchasing a subwoofer enclosure, or having a custom one built, you need to keep a few things in mind.

Three Things When Buying A Subwoofer Enclosure

  1. First is Fitment. Fitment is how the enclosure fits in the vehicle, and gets the most air space possible without sacrificing trunk space.
  2. Next is Air Space. Air Space refers the amount of volume a subwoofer requires to sound a specific way. If the enclosure is too small for the woofer you won’t get a good quality sound, as the speaker can sound distorted.
  3. The last thing you need to keep in mind is the type of sound you want to achieve. This is extremely important because if I don’t know the type of sound you want, the chances of you being disappointed are high.

But if you communicate the type of sound you want the end product should be exactly what you were looking for.

A few more things to keep in mind about Subwoofer Enclosures

Custom subwoofer enclosures do cost more than a standard manufacturer made prefab enclosure.

The reason for this is that prefab enclosures are not built specifically for the subwoofer and vehicle, and are mass produced on an assembly line.

Also, when thinking about installation time, custom subwoofer enclosures can take anywhere from a few hours to a week to install.

The amount of time is really determined by what the client actually wants.

Our staff has over 25 years in the mobile electronics industry, and we have specific computer-based subwoofer enclosure software to maximize the efficiency of the subwoofer.
